Simple but effective as a nice large wall portrait. I just dangled christmas lights from the ceiling against a black sheet. Adjusting the "gamma" setting makes the black darken taking out any light shadows. I don't think I even had to cut around the kids very tight. I think I just cut them out as squares with lots of black area and easily blended in the black and lights with a simply copy/paste area tool in photoshop. The name of the tool escapes me at the moment.
